You may have read about numerous products or ingredients over the last few years that have been referred to as “herbal Viagra.” But does such a product exist?

Well, not really. First, on a literal level, as Pfizer (the manufacturers of Viagra®) would tell you, Viagra is a specific chemical drug (sildenafil citrate) which simply does not occur in nature. There simply is no herbal or otherwise natural source for this substance.

But most people probably don’t take the phrase “herbal Viagra” so literally, and simply interpret it as referring to a natural substance (or combination of substances) that has an effect similar to that of Viagra. But in fact, referring to any product as “herbal Viagra” even in that respect is also misleading.

Viagra is a pill that makes it easier to have and maintain an erection for a period beginning within about an hour of taking it, and lasting for a few hours. And it usually does its job pretty well, right from the first time someone takes it. As far as we’ve seen, there is simply no natural substance that reliably works this way for most people, there is no natural or herbal functional equivalent for this purpose. Which is why we say simply, there is no herbal Viagra. (The nearest exception was probably yohimbine, a pharmaceutical based on yohimbe, which could sometimes produce almost Viagra-like results, but not as reliably, and with greater side effects.)

Some ostensibly natural products that were marketed to work like Viagra, and
did work, were subsequently found to have had sildenafil citrate or a similar substance in them (though not listed on the label), and the FDA has had such products pulled off the shelves, as these were essentially prescription drugs being sold without a prescription. Check these links for examples:

…and there are others.

As far as we’ve seen, the only true safe, natural products to enhance sexual function are unlikely to produce results in an hour, but instead work best when taken over time, like NewVigor.
Such a product can be a great option when someone does not want to take a drug, or when someone can’t always plan when they will be engaged in sexual activity, or even possibly in conjunction with a drug like Viagra® to get maximum results.

(Talk to your doctor before taking any nutritional supplement with Viagra or any prescription medication.)
